12/8/2023 0 Comments Jing techsmithNote that a significant amount of Jing’s usage is for image capture and markup which, unlike video recording, is unaffected by Flash retirement. We will continue to offer Jing to new and existing users as long as it is valued as-is. This new screen recorder is planned to have many advantages over Jing video including mp4 videos, webcam support, and longer videos, and it will remain advertising-free. We are unable to commit to specific timing for inclusion of this tool within Screencast but it will be in 2019, and we will be able to provide a date update in the spring. The new recorder will be built into and accessible within the Screencast and Relay interfaces, with videos stored in Screencast (free or pro) or Relay. But, we feel that the best long-term approach to achieving our mission with a free offering is to build a new product from the ground up. We remain committed to offering a free solution because we are passionate about making it easy for anyone to capture and share knowledge visually. We have decided to end development on Jing, and to build a replacement tool. As a result, we have received many questions about the future of Jing. With Adobe’s upcoming retirement of Flash (planned December 2020), Jing’s current video format (.swf) will no longer be supported by web browsers. Our customers have found significant value from Jing, based on the high number of downloads and positive ratings. For the past 11 years we have provided Jing for free.
